Re: I think my Japanese PSU is bad?

Perfect!

if it works you could replace the 7805 and 7812 with Traco Regulators and be done with the big aluminium heat dispenser completely :0)

Re: I think my Japanese PSU is bad?

Hi Ransom, congratulations! I would still go with trying to replace the 7805 (either good strong 7805 or Traco replacement) and use an external 9V Source... with 5V directly to the board you will have no power on the Cassette-port (maybe someday you want to use the original Tapedeck, my Audiointerfa...

Re: I think my Japanese PSU is bad?

To Mobsie, here is how to convert 4164 or 41256 to 4116 so no +12V and -5V is needed (at least for the RAMs :0))

Re: I think my Japanese PSU is bad?

Hi, thanks for the pictures! I guess you own some other 9V DC powersupply (around 1A ore more)? you could try to connect it to the CV instead of the original PSU (use only the two pins labeled -9V and +9V on the original PSU) and meassure the 5V line only with this 9V supply ... If you get stable 5V...

Re: I think my Japanese PSU is bad?

Hi Mobsie, the CV uses +12V in 3 other places, the TBA520 Videomixer, the Sound-amplifier circuit and on some models the HF Modulator... the -5V seem to be "only" used on the RAMs... PS: on my "workbench-Creativision" i have replaced all 4116 RAMs with 41256 (with modifications) which do not need th...

Re: I think my Japanese PSU is bad?

Hi, 7.7V is very bad! the right side of the 7805 should always read 5V could be it is only the faulty 7805 i would definately replace it. where did you take the GND from for your measurement? please meassure the voltages on the regulators in relation to their middlepin. Naturally there could also be...

Re: I think my Japanese PSU is bad?

Hi, yes, this looks much nicer ;0) so the "N" on the label is "Not connected" and "-9" should be labled "GND" And yes, the voltages should drop a bit under load, and they are well within spec for the internal PSU parts... The Creativision needs 3 voltages to work properly: +5V, -5V, +12V and it supp...

Re: I think my Japanese PSU is bad?

Hi,

could you please measure the voltage between the two left most pins (16, 16) that may be 16V AC...
