Thanks mate!
Can you clarify about the joystick: 1 only joystick is supported, DB9 connector (Atari style) and 2 buttons (like the Salora Manager) ? Or 1 only button, or none? Any support for 2 joysticks?

Good morning!

Yes, only one joystick (the left one) is supported, DB9 Atari style, 2 buttons are supported (there is a small error in my shematic, missing the second fire -button!!!! connection to A5) Sadly there are nearly no Atari/commodore Joysticks with two separate/distinguishable firebuttons! (One needs to modify a Joystick to use a second distinguishable button... or you own the original Laser2001/Salora Manager Joysticks ;0))

No second Joystick because of no more free I/O Pins...

Although it is nice to use a Competition Pro, the CV still plays/feels best with the original 16ways Joypads!
the project really is about replacing the keyboard... Joystick-support is more of a small gimmick ;0)

Cheers, TOM:0)

Thanks. I would look forward to a 2-button system so we can use the Salora Manager joysticks or a modified joystick if you can do a little revision or a hard-wiring.
Are you planning to make it a boxed item?

Hi,

Question for those owning an original Salora Manger Joystick:

which pin is used for the second (right) fire button? 5 or 9 ? (should connects to pin 8 (GND) when pressed) my guess is Pin 5 :0)

Good morning! (it is at least on this side of the world ;0))

i finished the first routing-attempt (the assisted routing in KiCad is nice, but needs getting used to ;0))
It looks a bit untidy, but should be ok...

I hooked the second joystick firebutton to pin 9 and 5 , so either one will work (Bear in mind, that most joysticks, even with multible firebuttons have no wires and empty sockets on pin 9 and 5 and (if they have no autofire) Pin 7 might also be empty... so without heavy joystickmodification => no second firebutton)

Cheers, TOM:0)

Great work!

It's coming together nicely.

Once the first version is bedded and working, I might look at porting the system to something like a Teensy 3.5, which frees up a LOT of I/O pins, and has a lot of "grunt". I've been playing with using Genesis controllers, which have six buttons. I have a Teensy 3.5 as well, so I'm hoping I'll be able to rig up a dual joystick setup that can then interface with your designs.
(I'm good at copy/paste code, but not so great at original development)

Hi,

i have designed a 3D printable plug for the CV Joystickports...

it simply holds 10 Dupont cables...

Nice job!
Did you find Dupont connectors a little tight? (I did when I was testing the original keyboard stuff way back when)
If I remember correctly, the joysticks themselves have something closer to one of these: https://www.jaycar.com.au/10-pin-0-1-he ... h/p/HM3410
(I'll give them a try next time I go past the electronics store)
It really sounds like you're getting nearly a full solution done. I certainly will be lining up to buy one and I know Mr Lurch will be too :-D
