Well, I copied the name you mentioned earlier in this thread. :P

As for tapping the composite video signal before it reaches the RF modulator, that is the same trick that I have done to my ZX Spectrum and supposedly works on a wide range of machines. But as you mention, the signal might need amplification to be usable. In the case RF no longer is desired, one usually can reuse the RCA plug in the RF modulator. Done properly, it can be reversed if required.

Yep you're right, I mentioned Giovanni in this thread, but this is a VERY old thread, Giovanni gave up almost immediately on the composite-out matter.

The guy who actually did it is called Gavino, and he lives around 100 Km from here. He fixed a few consoles of mine for money, and he still has a couple of them, doing the last attempts (he still have difficulties in fixing a DS Wizzard of mine).

As far as I know, he did a "hole" in the Creativision plastic case (that's what I requested him) on the side of the TV cable, and inserted a RCA jack in it.

Hi,

I simply took the composite signal before the modulator and the sound signal also before the modulator, and they delivered a good picture on my Amiga monitor ...
I did not even disconnect the cables from the modulator ...

I did this while repairing the consoles...

Greetings TOM:-)

Hi Tom, would you kindly publish a picture of the exact position of the solderings you made on the PCB?

Thanks :-)

Hi Tom... still there?

Why not publishing here the full infos for your composite AV mod?

My friend Gavino also succeeded in this, but his mod is more complex (changed an IC and probably a few resistors, not sure).

I'll admit I haven't opened up any Creativision to see exactly how it looks inside, but for inspiration here are some links how it can be done on other systems. It depends how good/strong video signal is fed into the RF modulator, if you need to amplify or otherwise adjust it.

I'm almost done with the tutorial. It's 99% ready.

I'll publish it with next website update, scheduled for the first week or April :-)

I'm also interested to see this.
Though, I have an old link that may be even better.
This is, I believe, a way to get RGB-out from a TMS9928, which would probably be even better quality than composite.

http://www.msxarchive.nl/pub/msx/mirror ... gbmsx1.pdf

I want to try this sometime.

Hi TBCTBC,

I once tried the RGBMSX circuit, but i sadly failed getting it to work (i tried it with a TI-99/4a).
But maybe it was only some bad soldering of mine...
Because of the bad quality od the original PCB scan, I have attached my redrawn and ready to etch RGMSX PCB...

Greetings TOM:-)
