Oh wow! Was I drinking Cough Syrup when I did the keyboard board???
Only 2 of the 10 wires go to the right place. Tomorrow night I'll try unscrambling them and see if I get any life..

Progress, just very slow progress.

OK I unscrambled the scrambled lines, put horrible dodgy fly leads in and...

It actually works!

As a 0.1alpha product, it actually works. I am amazed.

I'll need yet another "spin" of this but in principle it works. I was happily playing various games, and the buttons seem to work fine.

If anyone wants the KiCAD files as they are now, just let me know. I'll do another spin shortly and hopefully we'll have a 0.2beta product.

(Somehow, the two connectors that connect the joystick part to the controller are rotated 180 degrees. Also, my idea for using floppy drive cable at 1.27mm pitch to connect the parts is TOTAL PANTS)

:-D

It won't be this fortnight, but I'll aim to get a new set of boards ordered next fortnight :-D
(It takes quite a long time for the orders to get to me, so don't expect any updates for a month or so, I'm afraid.)

OK I have done a new spin, with minimal changes, other than fixing the connectors between the boards. I have printed and sanity checked all the traces and I'll order tonight.

Wish me luck, folks :-)

So the new PCBs finally arrived and...
THEY WORK!
I didn't want to mention anything until I was sure, but yeah. they actually genuinely work. I am amazed.
I'll release the KiCAD documents and Gerbers tomorrow :-)
