Today i write about our next project. The name is "Galaxy Ranger" I am a VIC-20 Fan from my 12 year to now. And i love "Laser Zone" from Jeff Minter, one of the best VIC-20 programmer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeCSwR-_OSw

On the C-64 it looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1J_eVAlZ418

Soon we have an article in an german Retro Magazin, they write about the CreatiVision and our activity. So is time to write about "Galaxy Ranger"

So for me is clear to bring this to our lovely CreatiVison. Our CreatiVision Head (Luca) make the Design and Graphics. Here for you some Ideas and first view.
I always need to develop more then one, so i work on "ColorMaze" and now on "Galaxy Ranger".

The Idea (from Luca) is to make 4-5 screens to settle the game screens.

Vertical cannon always moves on a crane/rocket launch pad. We can make
different graphics for the crane, depending on the setting.

And we have 2 player mode to play together.

Stage 1: earth: horizontal cannon is a tank that moves on a road. Blue sky
with clouds.

Stage 2: Moon: horizontal cannon moves on the Moon ground. Craters
everywhere, stars on the background.

Stage 3: Mars: moves on Mars ground. The "Mars Face" and the "Mars Pyramids"
on the horizon :-) stars on the background.

Stage 4: Sun: of course you can't land there, so we can use a "double crate"
for both horizontal and vertical. The sun would be on the background.

First View:

I hope you will like it, we do our best.

Yes, looks very promising!

By the way, I can't recall if you already have your own music routines but if you don't, feel free to reuse my routines. If it seems hard to compose music fitting the routine, I could help out with that as well.

i would like to use your music routines, my own is not finish. I have done routines for sound effect but is hard to create them.
Your music demos here in the forum are perfect!

I had fun in drawing the graphics, sadly I'm very busy with my own business these days, hence I have very very limited spare time to devote to the Galaxy Ranger project.
Will do more in the future, hopefully by the end of October.

we have some on the screen. http://youtu.be/RqqD_HM3cLk
You see the demo-screen like all CreatiVision games, then the Select Screen. I switch between 1 and 2 Player. Then i start the game and move the ships.

Looking good!

Dunno if you need more inspiration, but Richard Bayliss the other year made a tribute to Lazer Zone in his game Sheepoid for the C64, also available in an improved version Sheepoid DX. However I suppose we should reserve those sheeps, goats, llamas, camels and other furry animals for later games where they rather belong, if anyone is up for some true Jeff Minter remakes.
