G'day from Canberra

Post by MrLurch » Thu Sep 16, 2021 4:23 am

Gday all, Jason/Mr Lurch here.
Recently picked up a Dick Smith Wizzard with both controllers, the KB, RF Cable, and (thankfully) the PSU.
Thus far I only have the BASIC cart, but do have a multicart coming.
From the small amount of testing Ive had a chance to do, the KB seems to have some life in it, but the controllers (at least the keyboard parts) are dead. Unfortunately with the way the membrane is done, dont think there is much saving them :(

Hi and welcome MrLurch!

Sadly many controllers fail in the keyboard part... I managed to fix a few using silver conductive paint, the membrane breaks at the two 90degree angles... using a multimeter to check for continuity i found 3 broken traces on the last one i fixed after 3 layers of "silverpaint" the controller is working again (at least for now).

Because of the failing controllers we (@username and myself) are building a PS/2 Keyboard interface... The prototype is fully working, and after a longer (work related) break i will now (finally) :0) start designing the PCB...

Cheers from Austria to Australia, TOM:0)

Hey there! I am Italian but live in Sydney and come to Canberra for work every now and then.
Used to live in Canberra in 2014-2015 (just after relocating to Australia from Italy), loved living there :)
Let me know if/when you're in Sydney so we can grab a pint or two :)

Thanks all.
@scouter3D - I saw your design for the controller adaptor. Given I have a (mostly) working KB, I might try and design something for that. (But Ill post in the other thread :) )
