Hello
Hello
My name is Ola Andersson and I'm a retro collector. I recently bought a Creativision from carlsson, so I thought I would register on this forum. My main goal of my collection is to have as many computers and consoles as possible, and a few games for each. I'm also very interested in programming games for every system I get. My only real completed project is a game called Photon for MSX. You can find more info about that game here: http://nevyn.organ.su.se/photon
I'm working on a sequel to Photon, mainly for the Sord M5 computer, but since the Sord, MSX and Creativion all use the TMS-chip, I will probably try to port it. I'm familiar with both the 6502 and Z80 processors.
Cheers

Re: Hello
Hi Ola,
it's a true pleasure to meet you here!
There's a few very nice progresses in the "development central" forum. You might find a few useful bits of source codes for your TMS-9929-based games.

Re: Hello
Hi Ola,
welcome here.
I see your MSX game and like it.
Maybe you port it to our CreatiVision.
Br,

Re: Hello
I will probably not port Photon to any other platform, because it's not that good.
It was made for the minigamecompo, so I had to keep within 4K.
For the same reason, I won't publish that asm-code, it's not very easy to read because of many iteration of space optimization
I will try to port the sequel to as many platforms as I can though.
I'm trying to create a modular system for programming 8-bit games, so porting and creating new games will be as easy as possible.

Re: Hello
I see. I was a bit curious to see the routines for the starfield scrolling.
Re: Hello
Ah, maybe I can make a little demo and post under the development section.
Re: Hello
What emulator is best to use? Your version of FunnyMu?
Re: Hello
It's a little bit buggy, but it's very user friendly, and the overall quality is very good. Has currently the best sound emulation performance.
Please make sure to read the "charmap" image included with the emulator, so you'll understand which keys to use.
I suggest you to use it in combo with the "CreatiVe-UI" interface, which makes the whole stuff even easier to use.
- get all files from the CreatiVEmu website -> download pages
- make a folder, ex "c:\emulators\creativemu\"
- put CreatiVe.exe and FunnyMu.exe there, as well as the sdl.dll. Make sure there's also the .ini files.
- make a subfolder "bios" -> put the "bios.rom" of "bioscv.rom" there
- make a subfolder "roms" -> put the roms with ".bin" extension there
- execute the CreatiVe interface.
- double click on game to start
- press F3 to exit "demo mode" and enter "select mode"
- select game mode with CTRL or SHIFT
- start game with any key on keyboard, like numbers or letters.
