I've been away from the programming scene for a long time because I spent most time updating my new site. It's a portal on Nintendo consoles emulation, and it's called N!Zone. [update 2007: the website has gone offline permanently]

I'll soon be back to programming, by the way. I'm planning to release the long awaited Donkey Kong (Coleco, tabletop) Simulator. I just got a working copy from a Canadian friend and I'm planning to simulate it shortly!

And oh... happy new year! :-)

» 22nd September, 2001

Minor bug-fix release today:

- Egg (Nintendo, Game & Watch Wide Screen) S3/1.01 (Standard 3, minor bug-fix)

It's available for download on the usual page.

» 17th September, 2001

New game release. This time it's a simulator of the rarest G&W ever!

- Egg (Nintendo, Game & Watch Wide Screen) S3/1.00 (Standard 3, final)

The game plays the same as Mickey Mouse, even though the graphics are quite different. Get it from the downloads page.

NOTE: this game lacks the instructions manual browser. If you own the original version in paper, please scan and send it to me!

» 11th September, 2001

Whops! I've been warned of a bug in yesterday's release of Mickey Mouse. I just fixed it and it should work fine now. I'm releasing it:

- Mickey Mouse (Nintendo, Game & Watch Wide Screen) S3/1.01 (Standard 3, minor bug-fix)

Get the new version from the usual downloads page - my apologies for the inconvenience.

» 10th September, 2001

New game released today:

- Mickey Mouse (Nintendo, Game & Watch Wide Screen) S3/1.00 (Standard 3, final)

Big thanks to Scott Jackman from USA for lending me his actual game!

Also updated:

- Explorers of Space (Elektronika) S3/1.01 (Standard 3, more accuracy)

Get the new files from the downloads page.

» 9th August, 2001

Updated games today:

- Penguin Land (Bandai, LCD Double Play) S3/1.03 (Standard 3, manual added + fixes)
- Towering Rescue (Gakken, LCD Card game) S3/1.02 (Standard 3, manual added + fixes)

Big thanks to Ridwan Hughes and Bas Utervijk for providing scans from the rare instructions manuals! I've been hunting those scans for well over one year! The games also feature a few bug-fixes and updates to simulation routines - such as hiscore saves and A.I.

Get them from the popular downloads page.

» 31st July, 2001

I'm releasing the simulator of a Russian Game & Watch clone today. The title is:

- Explorers of Space (Elektronika) S3/1.00 (Standard 3, final)

The game is a clone of the rare and famous Nintendo's Egg and Mickey Mouse though in different casing and with different graphics setting: space ships, energy shields and missiles were used in place of the wolf (or Mickey Mouse), eggs and chickens!

This game has a very odd and cool feature, that's the Game A+B, that's the reverse of the standard gameplay of Games A and B: you operate the bullets in an attempt to destroy the starship. It's well worth a try! :-)

Get it from the downloads page. I highly recommend to play this game!

NOTE: Coming soon: Nintendo's Mickey Mouse and Egg. Stay tuned!

» 13th June, 2001

Two brand new games released today:

- Hippo Teeth (VTech, Tooth-Sporty Time & Fun) S3/1.00 (Standard 3, final)
- Caccia al Ladro/Heathcliff (VTech, Mini Time & Fun) S3/1.00 (Standard 3, final)

The games share the same CPU. Consequently, the gameplay and music are basically the same, just the graphics and casing are different. They are definitely both worth a try! :-)

Get both games from the downloads page.

» 8th June, 2001

I'm finally releasing the long awaited fixed versions of the following games:

- Tron (Tomytronic) S3/1.01 (Standard 3, fix for Win2000)
- Donkey Kong Jr. (Nintendo, Game & Watch Panorama Screen) S3/1.00b (Standard 3, fix for Voodoo3/G200/TNT2)
- Motor Cross (unknown mfg.) S3/2.03 (Standard 3, fix for Win2000)

Get them from the downloads page.

» 2nd June, 2001

I've just been warned of a serious uncompatibility issue occurring in my most recent simulator, Tron, and the old Motor Cross. The games are not compatible with Windows 2000 due to an ASM routine I included, playing the cycle's engine noise through the PC speaker!
Apparently, Windows 2000 doesn't allow sending data directly to external devices such as the PC speaker. :-(

At present, you can play the games correctly in all operating systems except Windows 2000. I'll soon release new versions, specifically designed for Windows 2000 users. I apologise for the inconvenience.

» 31st May, 2001

Here we go again with a new simulator - my 25th release:

- Tron (Tomytronic) S3/1.00 (Standard 3, final)

The game is extremely popular. It's a "tie-in" of the world famous movie "Tron" produced by Walt Disney in 1981.

The original tabletop game has a gorgeous design and the gameplay is very entertaining: it features three games in one, even giving you the opportunity to fight against an "intelligent" computer. The simulator also features nice Artificial Intelligence routines matching these of the original tabletop game! :-)

Get it from the downloads page. I highly recommend to play this game!

» 28th May, 2001

Damn - no time to rest! :-(

A few players reported of a bug, occurring when playinh my most recent simulators on their PCs having a Matrox G200 or a 3Dfx Voodoo3 video card. Apparently, these video cards have issues rendering 1-bit transparent bitmaps.
I decided to release updated versions of the games, with increased colour depth for sprites, making them work properly on every video card. The games are:

- Donkey Kong Jr. (Nintendo, Game & Watch Panorama Screen) S3/1.00a (Standard 3, graphics fix)
- Donkey Kong Jr. (Nintendo, Game & Watch Table Top) S3/1.00a (Standard 3, graphics fix)
- Donkey Kong Jr. (Coleco, tabletop) S3/1.00a (Standard 3, graphics fix)

Get the new files in case you are having the same problems with the previous versions. Files are on the usual downloads page.

» 23rd May, 2001

One more Nintendo tabletop simulator sees the light... well there are two new simulators actually... They are:

- Donkey Kong Jr. (Nintendo, Game & Watch Table Top) S3/1.00 (Standard 3, final)
- Donkey Kong Jr. (Coleco, tabletop) S3/1.00 (Standard 3, final)

I originally scheduled these games four weeks ago but I really wanted to add the instructions manual browser to both games - which I hadn't. Thanks to Rik Morgan for sending me scans.

Get the files from the downloads page.

NOTE: I'm currently coding the simulator for the gorgeous Tron (Tomytronic) tabletop - that's almost complete. I'm quite busy with my studies, so don't expect it soon. I'll keep you up to date by the way. Bye!

» 3rd April, 2001

Woho! 100,000 unique visitors? I'm totally impressed! :-)

To celebrate this incredible goal, I'll unveil the name of my next simulator.
Well the game was very popular in mid 80s, it's very fun (I personally love it!) and I got several requests to simulate it. The game is Donkey Kong Jr. (Nintendo, Game & Watch Panorama Screen).

The simulator is almost finished and I'm currently beta-testing it. I'm planning to release it next wednesday. Stay tuned!

New simulators released today:

- Dungeons and Dragons Computer Fantasy Game (Mattel, Action Arcade Series) S3/1.00 (final)

The gameplay it great! It's very close to that of the Intellivision version. I recommend you to read instructions very carefully before playing, because the game is very different to any other handheld game in existence!

Get it from the usual downloads page and enjoy!

PS: Thanks to Rik Morgan for providing scans from the original instructions manual!

» 21st February, 2001

I'm releasing a simulator of a top-wanted game today! It is:

- Donkey Kong II (Nintendo, Game & Watch Multi Screen Series) S3/1.00 (final)

I'm pretty sure you'll love this simulator, the game is very fun!

Get it from the downloads page.

IMPORTANT:
You may have noticed the "S3" additional prefix as part of the release number. Well, I designed a new "standard" for my handhelds simulators (S3 stands for "Standard 3.0").
Games released under Standard 3 can be played with/without any sound card as they make use of the superb FMod sound library allowing audio output through the Windows Multimedia System interface or any DirectSound device. Also, due to the removal of the crap "Delphi MediaPlayer" component, the "S3" games are much more stable then the previously released ones!
I'll soon update all my previous simulators to the new "S3" standard.

» 5th February, 2001
