Two people on AtariAge commented that there doesn't seem to be any way to register on this forum any longer. Is that on purpose due to the number of spammers, or a mistake?
It was also mentioned that the site not yet runs https which will make browsers, anti-virus programs and generally online rank rather low. If it was possible to active SSL for https, it would make the site jump much higher on Google search etc.
New members?
Re: New members?
It is due to the spambot continuously sending registration requests.
I tried many times to implement anti-spam measures but they never seemed to work.
So the registration is via administrator. New users have to contact me and I will add them to the forum.
As per HTTPS I will look into it. Last time I tried I was under the impression the HTTPS forum would not work on the server it is hosted on. Chances if I now upgrade the forum to its last release and HTTPS protocol, it could generate malfunctioning to the existing database (it has happened before). The forum upgrade process is supposed to be automatic and smooth but unfortunately it is very clunky and every time I had to manually patch a lot of things.

Re: New members?
I see. I know that phpBB can be tricky during upgrades. I would assume permanent links to previous attachments etc could be troublesome if the forum switches protocol.
Perhaps you can add a note somewhere to contact the admin in order to apply for membership in the forum. There seems to be a couple of people interested in CreatiVision who don't know how to join, which is a shame.

Re: New members?
I may create a specific locked forum room named 'How to register to the forum' and include a single message with 'email me etc.'
I can't find a better way to add 'notes' to the forum :/

Re: New members?
HTTPS active on the forum and all other sites on the madrigaldesign.it server
It was all about creating a SSL certificate, enabling it and activating the HTTP-to-HTTPs redirects.
Works like a charm, it seems

Re: New members?
Putting spam here seems like the ultimate waste of time. I guess they really, really wanted to target the three dozen fans of an obscure console released forty years ago. What's next, sending spambots to the three active users of the Fairchild Channel F forum? "Oh man, we've got to target all the fans of the Emerson Arcadia! I'm sure one of those six people will run out and buy whatever we advertise!"
Re: New members?
Lo il!
But the amount of spam I was getting was unparalleled! I still get some spam via the "contact us" form but thats nothing compared to the 50+ attempts of subscribing I was getting a couple of years ago.
