Re: Colecovision Module

After several attempts, Sydney-based gentleman Mark McDougall was finally able to obtain a stable dump of the 8KByte BIOS of the Laser 2001 Colecovision Converter today!

Find attached.

Pure Z80 code at $0000.

Feel free to test and have a look and analyse it.

Please do not share outside of the forum - I will share it through the CreatiVEmu website shortly and send to MAME team for a further test/look.

Briefly tried the BIOS of the Laser 2001 Colecovision Module on emulator (in lieu of the standard Colecovision BIOS) and... it works!
However the controller are mapped slightly differently. However I was able to successfully start a game on Donkey Kong and play (joystick and jump button work well on that game).
Certainly any emulator used in combination with this BIOS must be adapted and controls remapped. However this is a great start!

Donkey Kong also works under Mame and ColEm 5.6

For Mame rename the BIOS to r72114a_8317.u2 and use colecop machine.

For ColEm on whatever platform - just rename to COLECO.ROM.

I tested it on 2 old emulators - MAME and Colem are on my list. :)

Tried on Colem. The load screen shows purple background with all game roms tested
Tried on MAME. Unfortunately renaming the Laser 2001 module ROM and pretending it is the colecop bios doesn't work. MAME prompts an error message the wrong CRC and then terminates. I used the most recent MAME. :(

Using latest binary for Win64 Mame 0.268 is fine here - yes complains about CRC but does not care - do you have Mame 0.25x format ROMS?

ColEm 5.6 for me is fine also.

I am using the Windows build of MAME - just got it from the official website, and the matching ROMset. Yep same error, no warnings and then exits.
FYI Kong looks perfectly fine on the other 2 emulators I tried. Colem seems to have a few graphic glitches.
