G'day from Adelaide, Australia

Post by visrealm » Fri Feb 28, 2025 7:02 am

Hi everyone,

I'm Troy from the Adelaide Hills in South Australia. I'm a software guy by trade but like to develop hardware projects in my spare time.

I grew up with a TI-99/4A which got me hooked on programming at ~5yo before moving to PCs around '89. Around a year ago, decided to pick up a TI-99/4A for the nostalgia. That led me to develop a number of hardware improvements (including a cherry mx keyboard upgrade and a replacement VDP). Since then, I've started building a small collection of machines including another TI-99, ColecoVision, MSX (National CF-2700), Intellivision and a couple of 2600's.

I'm relatively new to the CreatiVision. I recently purchased a Dick Smith Wizzard to test it with my PICO9918 project which is a drop-in replacement for your TMS99xx VDP with VGA output and enhanced display modes:

Spoiler: It works perfectly :)

Cheers

Thanks :)

For the curious. This is what my initial install looks like:

And the output (with virtual CRT scanlines enabled):

Note: The interference pattern is a camera artifact

I'll add a topic about it soon. :)

Way to go. I hope you got the machine cheap. I'm amazed they're selling for $1,000 on eBay.

It was $400 + postage. Not too bad with the cassette module, moving keyboard and a few games.
